… isn’t quite the one you’d be expecting.
After a long day of hitting books in one of the most glamorous Starbucks I’ve had the pleasure to sip a PSL in, I met up with my friend Allison to go pub-hunting.
During my school commute, I pass at least three pubs. Two of those three were randomly closed for wedding festivities (engagement parties, stag + hen parties). I had already been to the third one.
Not all was lost, though: there are at least six pubs and a club that are staples in my neighborhood. Normally, I pass them coming back from my local Prêt-à-Manger or the Tube or an emergency KinderBueno run. My goal is to investigate all of them and see what the ruckus is about.
Except there wasn’t much ruckus at any of them tonight. Apparently, there was a football match on? So there was a bit of rabble-rousing from what looked like regulars. But ultimately, we had a quiet time at The Castle.
My gut reaction was to go for fish + chips, since it’s been a minute. But I decided to order the fried calamari in chili sauce and a side salad.
The batter was sumptuous and perfectly crispy. The greens of my salad were also very crunchy, which I appreciate. All in all, the food at The Castle did not disappoint! Plus, my two picks ended up being a healthier and cheaper alternative to the fish + chips.
While I didn’t see any haunts of queens or kings of old today, I’d say The Castle was a pretty lovely stop on my great British adventure.
